OK Neil, come out of the woodwork and let them know you are still around! Thanks Paul, for the link. It brought back some great memories about HOT ROD Magazine and the 50’s – 60’s. I’d forgotten how much "Big Daddy" contributed to the hot rod & tirkes growth. Regard, Jerry I asked because I know a guy named Neil Roth who used to do custom car jobs when he was a younger guy and I thought maybe this was him. Looking at this guy, tho, I think maybe they might be related. . . lol -Becky Shame on you.;-)  He was a great artist and built some really wicked custom cars that were way ahead of their time. Again as always, all of you have been a great help, thank you very much!! Marcel www.marcellafontainefineartstudio.com – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Dear Marcel, It depends on what type of needle you are trying to fix. For Paasche or Badger, I use two small pieces of 5ml (shelving) plate glass and roll the bent end of the needle between them. I then use #1200 wet and dry sand paper, spin the needle with my fingers between the pinched sandpaper sides. Using some chrome polish on a wet piece of leather, I pinch it around the needle and spin the needle as I did with the sand paper, which can bring the needle finish up like chrome. Doing this will change the pitch of the needle somewhat, so I usually put a dab of polish on the needle and spin it for a couple of seconds inside the old tip to re-seat it. A note here: make sure you flush all the polish off the parts before reassembly. For hardened needles (such as iwata), I do the same as above except I usually roll the needle on a fine sharpening stone with some 1200 wet and dry with a bit of water after the glass. It may save the needle for the day, but in the case I would get a new needle (and tip) for the brush, keeping the old set as a back-up. For needles like EFBE, it just has to be replaced as their needle/tip assemblies are machined fit. Hope that helps ya, Ken PS. I have in the past used the spray booth floor to fix a VL needle to finish a job. From that time on I  have always carried an extra needle/tip for all my brushes.

If the point of the needle gets bent, it can be repaired with a sharpening stone.  Press the needle against the stone at the appropriate angle, and roll it while sliding it across the stone, so it sharpens evenly. This is an emergency repair trick for when you don’t have a spare needle.  The needle will not work as well as a brand new one, but will do untill you get it replaced.  Hope this helps.  Jay
