Does any one know if MLI has published the Hobbit charts? I was looking through some papers I have save on cross stitch and found a message from November 1997 from MLI on Tolkien charts. I’ve looked for years for any Tolkien charts and still haven’t found any. Let me know if you find any. thanks and happy stitching, Josie

We have a chart coming soon on our site done by JW Baker airbrush artist….It’s called The Hobbit…It will be available in the coming weeks….. http://members.xoom.com/needlework Look under JW Baker Fantasy Art Our site is still in construction but it will give you an idea….. Hi Pat., I havn’t heard of the hobbit charts before, but I would LOVE to see them..and especially so if they are MLI’s… I love her work.. My 12 son loves the hobbit and the lord of the rings series of books. We recently spent a week putting together a jigsaw puzzle of "tree beard". I looks great, and we would like to have it hanging on our wall, but there is "one" piece of the puzzle missing.. This is a definate must have. Problem is if I stitch it for me I can’t display it because then I’d have to stitch it for my best friend who introduced me to Bilbo a looooong time ago, my ex-fianc, as well as 2 of my brothers who are also Tolkien fans. Guess I’ll just have to turn into Gollum and hide it! Jan in Northern Ireland who is willing to swop a leprechan for a Hobbit.

Tolkien in rctn and the most recent message that I saw from MLI on the subject was on 6/5/98. She indicated that there were issues with licensing from the Tolkien estate which her lawyers were trying to work out. Hi Pat, I had heard the same news a while ago. After not seeing anything in the works, I emailed MLI. I received a really nice reply, unfortunately the news was not good. The Tolkien charts from her are not to be. She said they were too dark….not lighthearted enough. So plans had been scrapped….I do hope she changes her mind though. I think she could truly do them justice. Judy

As I understand it, Is the sole holder licence from the Tokien Estates to design the charts for the Lord of the Rings Characters. I understand that Marion Levitt Imblum has the licence from the Tolkien Estate to design the Tolkien Characters – dying to see what she makes of Gollum!!! Pat, The characters from the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings are not licensed trademarks… Anyone is free to paint their interpretation of a literary work for the most part, unless each and every character has become a licensed trademark as in the case of Disney and all their characters -as a writer it is advantageous to have so many people interpret your works, because it only adds to your own popularity when they do so… You must however have express permission from the artist to reproduce his painted works in any shape or form…. There are many artists producing artworks depicting both the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings /Tolkien’s literary works…. There are over 50 artists that I know of who presently have such artworks for sale or display on the internet…There are probably many many more….
